Repentence Denied - Unacceptable, 2002

Oh the old quest to be like everybody else. To look a certain way, to follow a trend that someone else makes up to sell whatever is in style this season. Tell you what - just wait around and eventually your shape or look will come in fashion. OR, be happy with yourself and you’ll never be out. This painting stems from exactly this idea - that even if you apologize for what you look like or who you are, your apology will be denied by society. For me, this was a deep deep hurt; I always felt crushingly othered. Looking back, I don’t really get it because I looked like everyone else, I just didn’t feel like I looked like everyone else. Let’s get rid of this idea - hold your pebble or stone in your hand…

Let us nurture ourselves.

Take a deep breath

Place your rock under the painting. Say silently:

I release any brain patterning,

subconscious or conscious thought,

or energetic resonance to the

idea that I have parts

Of my physical body that are unacceptable. All of me

Is beautiful, every single particle.

I am whole.
